Muscle Car

Hi there...

It has been a long time since the last time I'd post my entry... Anywhere here I am... Still breathing and still standing...So lets talk about category of cars that known as muscle car.

What is a muscle car??.. The muscle car is a term used to refer to a variety of high performance automobiles. The term principally refers to American, Australian and to a lesser extent of the South African models. Normally the muscle car describes as 2-door rear wheel drive mid-size car with a large and very powerful V8 engine, and at an affordable price. Most believe that classic muscle cars were produced in the late 1960s and early 1970s and were built for street use and racing. They are distinct from sports cars and also from GTs, which are two-seat or 2+2 cars intended for high-speed touring/road racing. These are not generally considered muscle cars owing to their small size, relatively high cost and specialty nature.

For a definition from the muscle car era, Peter Henshaw's 2004 book Muscle Cars refers the reader to an extract from Road Test magazine’s June 1967 issue: "Just what is a Muscle Car? Exactly what the name implies. It is a product of the American car industry adhering to the hot rodder's philosophy of taking a small car and putting a big engine in it. The Muscle Car is Charles Atlas kicking sand in the face of the 98 hp (73 kW) weakling." Henshaw adds that the muscle car was designed for straight-line speed, and did not have the "sophisticated chassis", "engineering integrity" or "lithe appearance" of European high-performance cars.

Opinions vary as to whether high-performance full-size cars, compacts, and pony cars qualify as muscle cars. Classic muscle cars are also defined by age and country of origin. The term "muscle car" did not enter common usage until after production of the vehicles had essentially ended and American print media of the era commonly referred to them as "supercars"....

Allthough this high performance car are very fast on the straight line, but when it comes to cornering and heavy breaking, this kind of car are not suitable...but if u can 'tamed' the car, it's a fun exciting ride...Personally, I am also a muscle enthusiast...the muscle car have the best acceleration, descent top speed but worse handling...

The End Is Near...

Hi readers,

As we are approaching the final exam for this semester, there seems to be a lot of tests, quizes, assignment and presentation needed to be done...

It's a brainbuster time for all the students esspecially when the final exam is just around the corner... Allways busy studying for all the test and quizes and lots of assignment needed to be done and submitted on time plus need to prepared for the paperwork presentation and all of these situations happen at the same time...and that my friends feels like a large stone falls onto the head and crush your skull to pieces... The pieces are then being put back together and drop another large stone just to be broken again...

SUPERCHARGER...WHAT IS IT??..

Hi Guys...
For most of car enthusiast, surely they heard of turbocharger and superchager all the time. Turbocharger are more famous among car tuner compared to supercharger.

The most easier way to get more power from an engine is boost and there’s no other way around because boost is the most efficient and cost effective way to get more power out of any given engine but they do come with a price or side effects if it’s not being done properly. Without a proper parts and engine management, the newly boosted engine could be reduced to scrap steel within a week.

Talking about boost, there are only two options... The TURBOCHARGER or SUPERCHARGER. Turbocharge normally allows for higher power gains because it runs on the engine’s own exhaust gases while the supercharge runs on the pulley and a belt which has a parasitic effect on the engine’s power output.

But the turbocharger also has its own disadvantage as well. The turbo lag is one of the weeknes. The turbo setup is also unpredictable compared to the supercharger setups. By using the supercharger, the power delivery is much more smoother and more linear unlike the turbocharger where nothing happen until you hit 3000 rpm. The supercharger are also somewhat reliable because they are less prone to boost spikes.

The problem with the superchargers is that they can be difficult to install. It can be bulky esspecially for Roots and Twin-Screw type superchargers and required a bit of engineering and customization to install the pulley which needs to run the supercharger. Modern day cars normally have very cramped engine bays for space savings and wires and fuses for all the new fangled technological gizmos which makes it quite hard to fit a supercharger.

Roots and Twin-Screw type superchargers are also aren’t very efficient when high boost level are concerned. This is because the Twin-Screw rotors design is susceptible to blowback from the engine when boost levels are too high. This is not so with centrifugal superchargers.

The centrifugal supercharger is a lot like turbocharger which runs on engine driven belt and pulley which means this types of supercharger is more compact compared to Roots or Twin-Screw type supercharger and able to deliver more boost than a Roots or Twin-Screw type supercharger if needed.

A complete supercharger kit comes with extra injector, F-Con SZ piggyback ECU, all associated brackets, pulleys and belts for the supercharger, intercooler and an oil cooler. The installation might sounds easy but doesn’t mean it is quick.

After all the kit was finally installed, the base map was loaded on the ECU and everything wiil be checked to make sure everything was running properly before the car is tested on the dyno.

For example taking the Nissan 350Z or also known as a FairladyZ as the test subject. A stock 350Z produces power at 200.67bhp while 24.78kg/m for torque. After installing a HKS Dual Muffler Exhaust, the power of the car increases to 206.34bhp while the torque still remains the same. When the supercharger kit were installed, it pushed out 0.5bar of boost to the VQ35DE which churns out 270.68bhp and producing 34.05kg/m of torque. The F-Con SZ were than retuned to give a leaner fuel mixture. After a few adjusting and few more runs on the dyno, the 350Z produced power about 314.24bhp with 37.87kg/m.

The end result is a wholesome 108bhp and 12kg/m of torque increase from the HKS GT supercharger kit.. That’s really fast... Can’t wait to grab that kit...

UPGRADING SAGA BLM...FUN RIDE...

Hi...
How are you guys doing??..
Today we would like to talk about of how to made your newly purchased Proton Saga BLM into something that are much more fun and enjoyable to drive..

Since it’s still a fairly new model, not much parts would be available for it just yet...But that’s only for a few month because in a few month, that situation will change..

When doing up a car, better starts from ground up. So getting a new sets of suspension will help to improve handling. Try to get a pair of stiffer shock absorbers to match the lowering springs or a full coilover setup if affordable and don’t forget to grap yourself a bigger sets of wheels and tyres to give more grip and response. 15 inch wheels should get the job done..

Since the Saga uses the campro engine, try to search at any local car performance shop if they should have an exhaust system for the Saga. Bear in mind that basic bolt-ons such as intake and exhaust will not yield that much power, so be conservative in your expectations.

The Lost Atlantic

Long ago, there was a mystical kingdom called Atlantis located to the west of the beautiful city of Eden. Generations of Angels lived and worked there in peace. However, this peace was soon overwhelmed by the ferocity of war. After the war, Atlantis was torn from the land and sunk beneath the waves. Even after this tragedy the people of Eden sought peace. Recently, scientists from the Iron Castle Exploration Association have found the exact location of Atlantis. The first cooperation among four factions in history was created. They have created a great exploration ship, Habosen, and planned to go to Atlantis. While Angels all over Eden cheered their bravery and hoped for the best, evil shadows gathered under the water.

Top Gear - Proton Satria Neo

Hi there...

Today we all would like to talk about Satria Neo, one of the car model produced by Proton. It is a 3 door hatchback with FF layout. There are two types of engine that powered the car. There are 1.3L straight-4 twin-cam Cam-Pro engine which produces 94bhp and another using 1.6L straight-4 twin-cam Cam-Pro engine which produces 110bhp.

The car was said as 'Budget kudos of Matalan, but not actually as bad as you'd expect. Rough engine note aside, it rides OK and the motor's reasonably peppy. Dodgy interior styling, though'. for the performance, the car received a rating around 3 stars out of 5. The car was said that you can feel the power when you are driving the 1.6L version but it isn't as quick as some and needs to be worked hard.

For driving and handling, the car received 4 stars because it handles well with a decent amount of grip at the front and well contained body lean with sharp steering. That i personally agreed because all proton cars starting with the Gen-2 handles so well. I still can drive around corner with high speed but i don't feel anything but just grip, grip and grip...

The lack of space causes this car to only received the rating of 1 stars in the spacious rating because the head and legroom are in short supply in the back and the boot isn't very big while 2 stars rating for the build quality with slight improvement over previous Protons but it still feels and looks too budget.

3 stars for the equipment with the entry SX includes a CD player, air con and electric windows while the GSX adds 16in alloys and climate control while safety for only 1 star because it just had 2 airbag and no traction control but it does has the ABS brake.

For owning it received 3 stars rating for the good fuel economy and low road tax while 1 star only for the value because it wasn't cheap enough for a budget brand.

Overall rating this car received 3/5 stars. Allthough the proton have come out with huge improvement, but it is still too expensives. The main rival for Proton Satria Neo are Fiat Punto, Vauxhall Corsa and Ford Fiesta

Top Gear - Perodua Myvi

Hi everybody..
How are you doing??.. Today i would like to write a preview about the Perodua Myvi which i came across from the top gear website at http://www.topgear.com/

Anyway, the Myvi are considered as 'A budget supermini from the king of budget supermini manufacturers that's not quite so, erm, budget' by the people from the top gear. Well I personally think that what they had said were true.

The performance rating for this car are just 3 stars out of 5. This is because there's just one engine 1.3-litre with 86bhp and pulling well through all five gears and it's not fazed by motorways. However it's not very refined and it can become loud when pushed too hard.

For driving, it also received around 3 stars because it nimble through the corners and not suffering from much oversteer or body roll but can be a bit crashy over potholes. Spaces also received rating of three stars.

2 stars for the build quality because it still uses too much shiny - cheap looking plastic and it is not pretty. Although strongly constructed.

Equipment received 4 stars while 2 stars goes to safety and owning and only 1 stars for the value because the price of 7k poundsterling for this car are too expensives. It is overprice by 1k.

Overall the car received rating of only 2 stars out of 5.

Top Gear - Gen 2

Hi...
So a few days ago i go through the top gear website. The top gear is a British's BBC television series about automobile and they also published a magazine based on their program. But we are not going to talk about the program.

As i came across their website, there are review about cars from all major car producers like the Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Bentley, Aston Martin, Mercedes, Audi, BMW, Cadillac, Rolls Royce, Nissan and there are also Proton and Perodua.

One of the car that being reviewed are the Proton Gen-2. They said that the Gen-2 is a new budget five-door hatchback that's very European in concept, although it's a concept that's five years old so don't expect to blown away by razor-sharp dynamics.

In their evaluation for performance, the Gen - 2 scored 3 stars out of 5. For driving and handling, it scores 4 stars while 3 stars for space inside the car because the rear roofline hinders headspace. Only 2 stars for build quality and equipment but it is worse for safety because its only scores 1 stars because the car was only provided with 2 airbags at the front and ABSless brakes. For owning and valued the gen 2 gets 3 stars as it is an affordable car and consumed fueled around 39 mile per gallon. It is a small step forward by proton but there's a lot of thing needed to be improved. Overall scores for this car is 3/5stars. The main rival for Proton Gen - 2 are Mazda3 and Chevrolet Lacetti.

599 GTB

Yesterday evening, I sent my friend to Alor Gajah because she needed to catch her bus at 7 p.m. On my way back to the campus, I stopped at the Simpang Ampat cross junction because the traffic light turn red. As I was singing while listening to some musics, I heard a car stop besides me. It was the Ferrari 599 GTB. It is the exotic GT supercar, Red in color and the registered plate are from the singapore. Seeing the exotics car are a chance that can't be missed.I felt so excited about it. Like a litle boy recieved his 1st birthday preasent as far as can be remembered.

Afterall, the 599 is my dream car that I think I will be able to ride it only in my dream. Seeing alone is not enough. What makes the ferrari are so famous not just the design. It's the sound and the power. So I'm never going to let that chance just drive away like that.

I rev my car till it reach the 6000 rpm hopping that the ferrari will response. After two to three times of engine revving, i heard the sound that made me became more excited. The sound of the 6 litre, V12 engine that came out from the chasis feels like a thunder. The driver is responding. I didn't want to race with the ferrari. I just wanted to see the power that going to be unleashed by the V12 engine.

When the light turns to green, I slamed my right foot on the gas pedal and at the same time releasing the clutch pedal causing my tyres to did some burnout before the car accelerate. The same goes with the 599 only it doesn't has a clutch pedal and it doesn't has a stig gear like mine instead the 599 has 6-speed sequential manual gearbox or also called as the F1 superfast because it changes gear like the F1 cars. As i reach the first Durian stalls along the road, The 599 has allready went under the highway flyover. In only 5 seconds the ferrari has allready 400 meter or a quater mile in front of me.

BMW GINA

A few days ago i surf through the internet about the latest car models on the market. There is one model that really caught my eyes. BMW GINA or the GINA Light Visionary Model. GINA stands for "Geometry and functions In 'N' Adaptions". It is a fabric-skinned shape-shifting sports car concept built by BMW.

They says that the flexible, stretchable water resistant translucent man-made fabric skin – polyurethane-coated Spandex is resilient and durable. It resists high or low temperatures and doesn’t swell or shrink and the movement doesn’t slacken or damage the fabric. The body also can change its shape according to exterior conditions and the speeds and also allows the driver to change its shape at they desire. The fabric being stretched over a moveable frame essential shapes are formed beneath the skin by an aluminium wire structure, though at points where movement is needed like the ducts, door openings, spoiler, flexible carbon struts are used. The shape of the frame is controlled by many electric and hydraulic actuators for example the headlights are revealed when small motors pull the fabric back in an eyelid like fashion. As the fabric is translucent the taillights shine through it.

GINA has just four panels consist of the bonnet, the two side panels and the boot. It can grow a higher rear spoiler for stability at high speed. Its doors open in butterfly style, and are covered by a fabric piece reaching all the way from the nose of the car to their trailing edge which when closed leaves a perfectly smooth surface. Access to the engine can be gained through a slit that can open in the middle of the bonnet.

When the car is parked, the car’s steering wheel and instruments sit in an ‘idle’ position on the centre console to allow the driver easy entry. The steering wheel and instruments assume their correct positions when the driver presses the start button and the headrest rises from the seat once the driver is seated, making it easier to get in and out of the car. I dont know about you guys but i like this car. I just can't wait for it to role on the streets.

Cars

Now we just would like too discuss about cars. One of our favourite things. For most people, the car are their second bigest investment. That is the statement that i think most people would agree.

A car is a wheeled motor vehicle for transporting passengers which also carries its own engine or motor. As of 2002, there were 590 million passenger cars worldwide which roughly means a car per 11 people.

Most cars run on petrol but there are few cars generated by hydro or water, electric car, solar etc. But personally we prefered to drive a car which is generated by petrol because it is more fun and thrilling

Virus..

A virus came from the Latin virus meaning "toxin" or "poison". It is sub-microscopic infectious agent that unable to grow or reproduce outside a host cell. Each viral particle which are also called virion consists of genetic material, DNA or RNA, within a protective protein coat called a capsid. The shape varies from simple helical and icosahedral forms, to more complex structures with tails or an envelope. Viruses infect all cellular life forms and grouped into animal, plant and bacterial types, according to the type of the host infected.
Examples of diseases caused by viruses include the
common cold, influenza, chickenpox, diarrhea and cold sores. Serious diseases such as Ebola, AIDS, avian influenza and SARS are caused by viruses. The ability of viruses to cause disease is described in terms of virulence. Viruses have different mechanisms which they produce disease in an organism, which largely depends on the species. Mechanisms at the cellular level primarily include cell lysis, the breaking open and subsequent death of the cell. In multicellular organisms, if enough cells die the whole organism will start to suffer the effects. Although viruses cause disruption of healthy homeostasis, resulting in disease, they may exist relatively harmlessly within an organism.
Some viruses can cause
chronic infections, where the viruses continue to replicate in the body of the hosts' defense mechanisms. Biologists debate whether or not viruses are living organisms. Some consider them non-living as they do not meet all the criteria used in the common definitions of life. For example, unlike most organisms, viruses do not have cells. However, viruses have genes and evolve by natural selection. Others have described them as organisms at the edge of life. Viral infections in human and animal hosts usually result in an immune response and disease. Often, a virus is completely eliminated by the immune system. Antibiotics have no effect on viruses, but antiviral drugs have been developed to treat life-threatening infections. Vaccines that produce lifelong immunity can prevent viral infections.

Biodiesel Is An Alternative Fuel

Lots of people were talking about the alternatives to replace the comercial fuel thet we are using right now. One of the alternatives are biodiesel.Biodiesel is derived from the fats of animals and plants. Since the energy demands are increasing and fossil fuels or the current commercial fuel are limited, the research is directed towards an alternative renewable fuels. The advantages of using this alternative fuel are its renewability, biodegrability and better quality exhaust gases. Fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) from vegetable and animal fats have shown promise as biodiesel, due to improved viscosity, volatility and combustion behavior relative to triglycerides, and can be used in conventional diesel engines without significant modifications. Biodiesel had higher oxygen content than the petroleum diesel and the use of the biodeisel in diesel engines have shown great reduction in emission of particulate matter, carbon monoxide, sulfur, polyaromatics, hydrocarbons, smoke and noise. In addition, burning of vegetable-oil based fuel does not contribute to net atmospheric CO2 level because such fuel is made from agricultural materials which are produced via photosynthetic carbon fixation. The substitution of conventional diesel fuels with fatty acid methyl esters already comprises a commercial activity in many countries of world. However, the use of biodiesel has not expanded into developing countries, due to the higher prices than conventional diesel. The higher cost of biodiesel is due to its production mostly from expensive high-quality virgin oil.The use of low-cost feedstock such as waste frying oils and non-edible oils in an acid-catalyzed process should help to make biodiesel competitive in price with petroleum diesel. The most common way to produce biodiesel is by transesterification, which refers to a catalyzed chemical reaction involving vegetable oil and an alcohol to yield fatty acid alkyl esters and glycerol. Transesterification reactions can be alkali-catalyzed, acid-catalyzed or enzyme-catalyzed.

microorganism

As a bioprocess students, microb or microorganism become a part of our life.
A microorganism or microbe is actually an organism that is microscopic or too small to be seen.
Microorganisms are diverse and include bacteria, fungi, archaea and protists and also some microscopic plants and animals like amoeba. Viruses and prions are classified non living and not recognized as microorganism. Most microorganisms are single-celled.

Microorganisms live in all parts of the biosphere containing liquid water. Microorganisms are critical to nutrient recycling in ecosystems as they act as decomposers. While some microorganisms can fix nitrogen, they are a vital part of the nitrogen cycle. Recent studies indicate that airborne microbes may also play role in precipitation and weather.

Microbes also have being exploited by people in biotechnology for ages, both in traditional food and beverage preparation, as well modern technologies based on genetic engineering. However, pathogenic microbes are harmful and potential biological weapons since they invade and grow within other organisms causing diseases that kills many orgamism and could change the ecosystem. Some species may become extinct while the survivors may evolve into a new breed.
